Our resident doll maker is Jessica (the momma bear of Noisy Cottage). Jessica has been sewing since she was 6 and made her first Waldorf doll at 10 years old. Now, almost two decades later, she creates dragons, dolls, felted tapestries and woolen people using a multitude of techniques ranging from needle felting to knitting to the tying techniques involved with creating a Waldorf style doll. Soft Momma Breastfeeding Dolls (above) are about 10 inches tall and have soft cotton velour bodies. Their bodies are simpler and non-dressable, they come with a sling. The babies are about 2" tall and proportionate to the momma. For velour colors scroll down. Please note that the slings are made out of cotton fabric not cotton velour but we are careful to choose a shade as close to the velour color as we can get so that it matches the dolls well. You can see examples of Soft Mommas with cotton fabric slings in our gallery.
Base Prices for Custom Order Dolls Please see below for Clothing Choices and Other Information *12 inch Dress-able is $75.00 *12 inch Jointed Doll is $90.00 *Breastfeeding Sets are $95 (additional baby is $15) *Soft Momma Breastfeeding Sets $65 (additional baby $10) Please note: On the Soft Mommas Breastfeeding Sets you have the option of having the momma with A.) Two permanent braids and a permanently attached hat or B.) A full head of hair. The full head of hair changes the price to $75. *Mermomma Breastfeeding Sets are priced the same as our original Noisy Cottage Breastfeeding Sets ($95; additional baby $15) These dolls are pricier than most other types of dolls because of the quality of materials used to make them, the hours spent on them (anywhere from 5 to 15 hours on each doll and sometimes far longer depending on the details). They are also heirlooms to be passed down, loved and played with for years to come. I still have my doll that is well over 20 years old and still played with regularly! They are constructed of natural materials that embody the life energy and force of the elements they come from (wool, cotton, etc.) this creates a different element of play. We are always startled at how very different a doll looks once it is in the hands of a child who loves it. Much like the story of the Velveteen Rabbit, the dolls take on a knowing expression and look very different. They truly look full of love and it seems to change them down to their very core. Rainbow mixed with metallic yarn- a couple strands (or a lot) can be added to a dolls head for some extra "funk". Skin Colors Click on the picture of the skin tones to enlarge it!
From Left to Right: Brown, Clay, Tan, Fair, Extra Fair Please note: the Fair is pinker than the picture shows and the Tan is slightly darker than the picture shows but getting the light in the photo right is a bit of a challenge. Thank you for understanding. (we currently have limited access to the "clay" color and the extra fair. We are hoping to have more access but we are currently limited) Clothing The Dressables and the Jointed dolls come dressed in either a shirt and overalls or a dress with apron, you specify which you would prefer. The breastfeeding sets come dressed in nursing clothing either a pants jumper or dress jumper (excluding the Mermommas). You can add to the wardrobe for additional charge. Unless otherwise indicated, all of our materials are 100% cotton. The pantaloons and bonnet are always muslin and there is always cotton lace on the edge of the bonnet, the apron hem and the apron shoulder straps. Swatches We have some cool Vintage Fabrics for dolls' clothing this year. We have given them descriptive names so that we can keep them straight when we get orders. Check them out below: Here is our new "Kitty Fabric" that matches the 3 solid colors we have in stock (below are close ups with the "Kitty Fabric" and each solid color swatch) Purple, Green and Yellow are the apron fabrics (or shirt) while the "Kitty Fabric" is the dress (or pants) fabric: #P1

***Mermomma and Merbaby Tail Fabric Swatches ONLY*** MM#1: MM#3: (We are having a hard time getting an accurate photo of the colors in the Mermomma swatches- MM#2 is more teal colored than the photo and MM#3 is much darker with deep purple, deep blue and deep green. We will continue to work on more accurate photos)
Velour Colors Occasionally a velour color will be only temporarily available or seasonal. We will make a note if the color in not available. The velour we use has a varying amount of cotton. The range is usually about 70% to 90% cotton content. We strive to use the highest cotton content available though some colors and manufacturers may vary between those two ranges. NOTE about fabrics in regards to Mermommas: Mermommas will have fabric swatches that are water and ocean themed. We will change fabric selections periodically and these will be the swatches to choose from if you are ordering a Mermomma. You can expand on the form below to add descriptions of your ideas and we can talk more about creating the doll you want. Below is a list with each element of the doll and what we have to offer under that category. Below the list is the actual form you fill out. Hair Type: “curly” (bouclez) or straight or dredlocks (dreds costs $3) Hair length: it can be really short (about ½ an inch or down to the feet) or a crocheted cap that resembles what you might have on a baby doll Eye colors: blue, green, purple, brown (or your specifications) Eye types: embroidered or painted Mouth type: smile or plain line; embroidered or painted Ears: optional pointed elf ears (pointed ears only) Clothing Preference: shirt and overalls or dress and apron Clothing Fabric Specs: We provide a couple of choices for fabrics (please note that ocean and water themed fabrics are used for Mermommas), we asked our own children what colors we should use and they helped us out. If you do not see the colors and/or theme you would like for your doll, we will look for something to match your criteria- there is a charge for this since it involves a lot of extra leg work on Jessica's part, that charge is $10.00. Breastfeeding Dolls: snaps or no snap on bably's mouth and momma's nipples, **Scroll down to questions #13 through #16 which pertain to different breastfeeding sets (Mermomma, Soft Momma and the Original Noisy Cottage Breastfeeding set) and specifics about them. Jessica will collect swatches from several stores, take pictures and email you what she has found. She has made numerous trips in the past to ensure a customer's satisfaction when it came to the fabric of a doll's clothing. #13.*ALL styles of Breastfeeding dolls ONLY*: snaps or no snaps #14 *For Mermomma orders ONLY!* Choose from fabric samples MM#1, MM#2 and MM#3. #15 *For Soft Momma Breastfeeding sets ONLY *Choose the velour colors that you want-- you will need two colors. Baby's pajamas match Momma's shirt (the first color), the second color will be the color of both hats, the sling and the pants on Momma. You also need to specify if you would like permanent braids and permanent hat or a full head of hair. The Fine Print (well, maybe not so fine here considering the bold font): ***Please keep in mind, we require a 25% deposit on any custom order due at the time of the order's placement- 15% is refundable if the order is cancelled within 1 week of placement.*** As always- don't hesitate to contact us with any and all questions. We like to hear from you, we only ask that you remember we are on the West Coast of the US and follow Pacific Time so please just check the clock when you pick up the phone. We enjoy speaking with you but at 4:00am we tend to be pretty groggy and aren't quite mentally equipped to be taking orders or answering questions - after 8:00am is a far better time to reach us in a coherent state. Price: $6 per letter This is a rather unique gift for any
occasion. It can be a child's name, a word like "Peace" or
"Welcome" (see examples) or a single letter to hang on a door or on the
wall. Price: $6 per letter Please read carefully: *Colors fall into spectrum color categories since wool colors can vary from batch to batch and we don't always know what will be available. Reds will vary between bright primary red to brick red while browns covers tan to chocolate, while yellows can be anything from bright to mustard etc. Remember you can add little extra information at the bottom of the order such as: "I prefer mellower yellows than the bright primary yellows" and we will do the best we can to work with the mellower yellows in stock. You will need to specify what word or name and whether you want all the letters and background the same or whether you want different colors. That is the reason we have a Letter #1, #2, etc. list. If you need more letters than the space we have listed, just add them in an email. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact with them. All banner letters are done in the same font as seen in the pictures above and examples below. They are then sewn on to a black wool blend felt back and on to a cotton webbing ribbon of a dark color like a dark green, dark blue, dark brown, gray or black and this is usually determined by what we have available but only the ends really show so we keep the color dark so as not to distract from the letters themselves. Custom Orders We do custom orders and are
willing to work extensively with you to create a doll of your own design
or you may choose from our list of doll body styles. If you don't see
something on the list, email us and we will work with you to try and
make the doll of your dreams come to fruition. We also do custom dragons
and other creations. Custom order timelines range from one week to one
and a half months. We ask that you bank on the one and a half month
timeline to allow for the final product when considering an order. It is
also advisable to email and see whether there is a waiting list at that
time. The lengthy timeline allows Jessica to spend enough time on the
order so that it gets the time, focus and energy that it deserves as
well as her children receiving the time, focus and energy they deserve.
Tip: The 12 inch Dressables have a quicker turn around
